ARABIAN GULF (Aug. 29, 2015) Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) 3rd Class Daniel Laverdefranco, from Assault Craft Unit 5, hammers the roof of a troop transport box into place on a landing craft air cushion (LCAC) located in the well deck of Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). Essex is the flagship of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and, with the embarked 15th MEU (MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
