U.S. NAVAL BASE GUAM (Sept. 1, 2015) – Lt. Ryan Sylvester, the command judge advocate, trains officers about Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) program updates onboard USS Emory S. Land (AS 39). This training highlighted information from the recently released updated SAPR instruction. Sylvester explained, among other topics, the privilege that protects confidential communications between victims and victim advocates, the prohibition against retaliation against victims for reporting sexual assault, and command reporting requirements following a report of sexual assault. Emory S. Land is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility.
