150827-N-ZZ999-020 U.S. NAVAL BASE GUAM (Aug. 27, 2015) – Sailors on board USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) stand ready to assist a Naval Base Guam harbor patrol craft in responding to a simulated suspicious floating object near the ship. The patrol craft attempts to move the object using waves from its wake but, if necessary, the ship’s personnel can execute alternative methods to keep the object away from the ship. The simulated threat response was conducted as part of Citadel Pacific, a weeklong drill period. Citadel Pacific practiced implementing base-wide response protocols to simulated acts of aggression. These exercises maintain proficiency in executing anti-terrorism and force protection measures. Emory S. Land is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility.
