ARABIAN GULF (Sept. 28, 2015) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 3rd Class Andres Ulloa Fernandez signals an Army UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter from the Combat Aviation Brigade, Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 137th Aviation Regiment while conducting deck landing qualifications (DLQs) on the flight deck of Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) as part of an interoperability exercise between the Navy and Army. Essex is the flagship of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
