151001-N-XN177-152 YOKOSUKA, Japan (October 1, 2015) – Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Ray Mabus (center) prepares to address local media during the arrival of the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) pier-side at Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY), Japan Oct. 1.The Reagan replaces USS George Washington (CVN 73) as America’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier. Reagan’s forward deployment to Yokosuka demonstrates the U.S. commitment to Japan, to peace and stability in the region, and ensures America has the most capable platform when it matters, where it matters. Combining one of the Navy’s newest aircraft carriers with the Navy’s most advanced carrier air wing is in keeping with the U.S.’s commitment to bring its most modern and capable platform to operate with the forward-deployed naval forces.
