Lt. Gen. Lawrence Nicholson, the commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force, explains his focus and intent to the leadership of units aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Joseph W. Estabrook Chapel Oct. 29, 2015. Nicholson’s intent is to be ready for anything at a moment’s notice and to take care of the Marines under his charge. “(Training) isn’t like putting on a baseball glove and suddenly you’re Derek Jeter, you have to practice and you have to work at it,” he said. The Toronto, Canada, native also visited with many noncommissioned officers at the chow hall over lunch. Nicholson wasn’t shy in his regard and complete faithfulness to his NCOs and listened to problems and questions they had, going so far as to have a notepad and taking notes of the concerns of his Marines.
