INDIAN OCEAN (Nov. 4, 2015) Sailors assigned to San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Anchorage (LPD 23), are lowered into the Indian Ocean by crane in an 11-meter rigid inflatable boat (RIB), to give aid to stranded Sri Lankan fishing vessel M/V Lakshan. Lakshan became stranded because of engine problems, flagging down Anchorage that had been passing by. Anchorage rendered aid to the crew, providing food and water. M/V Beyanara was dispatched and arrived the following day to take over assistance of the Lakshan. Anchorage is part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group and with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (15th MEU), is currently operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
