Brian Shipman, Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC), San Diego Detachment Officer in Charge, introduces SMWDC and the new career opportunities it provides junior surface warfare officers (SWOs) during a brief aboard USS Momsen (DDG 92). SMWDC is increasing the tactical proficiency of the surface warfare community by plucking an elite cadre of SWO's to become specialized warfighters called Warfare Tactics Instructors (WTI).
