Maj. Remington L. Nevin, MD, MPH, United States Army Medical Corps, Preventive Medicine Physician 353rd Civil Affairs Functional Specialty Team assigned to U.S. Africa Command's Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa lectures on the clinical presentation and treatment of malaria during classroom instruction at the National Reference Laboratory and Quality Assurance Training Center to the 21 malaria microscopy students on the afternoon of Nov. 25. Upon completion of this course, the 21 students will in turn teach other Tanzanian lab technicians the skills learned at this conference. U.S. Africa Command's Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Medical Research Unit-Kenya and their Kenyan partners, the Kenya Medical Research Institute, are conducting a medical engagement to provide a two week basic malaria microscopy training, Nov. 23 through Dec. 4, 2009, to medical laboratory technologists from Tanga Region, Tanzania. The U.S. President's Malaria Initiative-Tanzania is also facilitating the training.
