The first piece of cake is presented to the oldest member of the 1st Marine Division Association symbolizing the honor and respect to his experience, during the 1st Marine Division 75th Anniversary Banquet at Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 4, 2016. Traditionally the division takes time to celebrate the anniversary by sharing a meal and a piece of cake. The sword is used to cut the cake as a reminder that we are first and foremost a band of brothers and warriors committed to carrying a sword so that our nation may live in peace.
