The second piece of cake is presented to the youngest 1st Marine Division Marine, symbolizing the passing of knowledge and tradition, during the 1st Marine Division 75th Anniversary Banquet at Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 4, 2016. Traditionally the division takes time to celebrate the anniversary by sharing a meal and a piece of cake. The sword is used to cut the cake as a reminder that we are first and foremost a band of brothers and warriors committed to carrying a sword so that our nation may live in peace.
