After the 9.0 magnitude earthquake leveled Japan, part of providing medical support for family members from there on March 21, 2011 was assisting in any way possible. For Cmdr. Alan L. Adams, Joint Regional Medical Plans Office, NW NORAD/USNORTHCOM Surgeon's Office, that meant actual hands-on pediatric support by holding the toddler of a Navy spouse as she completed the necessary Navy Family Accounting and Assessment System (NFAAS) updates for Navy Region Northwest Fleet and Family Support Center to help facilitate assistance with needed services such as lodging, relocation, child care, transportation, phone contact information, and interpretation services.
