Staff Sgt. Curtis Byrom supervises Pfc. Edin Lopezramirez as he detains a simulated attacker during nonlethal weapons training at Camp Pendleton March 22, 2016. During the training, Marines were sprayed with oleoresin capsicum and then neutralized several simulated attackers while combating the effects of the weapon. This training ensures that Marines with 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, can apply the level of force appropriate for any situation while deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit later this year. Lopezramirez, a native of Long Beach, California, is a field artillery cannoneer with 2nd Bn., 11th Marines. Byrom, a native of Bakersfield, Calif., is the Company Gunnery Sergeant of Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Law Enforcement Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group.
