During the training, Marines were sprayed with oleoresin capsicum and then neutralized several simulated attackers while combating the effects of the weapon. OC spray commonly causes a burning sensation and visual impairment. This training ensures that Marines with 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, can apply the level of force appropriate for any situation while deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit later this year. Lopezramirez, a native of Long Beach, California, is a field artillery cannoneer with 2nd Bn., 11th Marines.
