SAN DIEGO – Raul Romero salutes the national colors during a Vietnam War 50th anniversary commemoration in San Diego March 29, 2016. The event was part of the presidential proclamation of commemoration for Vietnam veterans, which extends from Memorial Day 2012, through Veterans Day 2025. Romero served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as part of the 44th Medical Brigade. After the war, he worked as a psychologist with the Vietnam Veteran Readjustment Center. Hundreds of veterans attended the event where dozens of organizations, such as the San Diego and San Marcos Vet Centers, came to show their support and present resources available to veterans. Of the approximately 9 million Americans who served during the Vietnam War, more than 7 million are living, but more than 1,600 remain listed as missing in action.
