Evanks Rosales and Yahyra Santizo, 15, of North Valley Military Institute in Sun Valley, California, walk off the airfield after competing in the California Cadet Corps State Drill Competition on April 9 at the California National Guard’s Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) Los Alamitos. The Orange County base hosted more than 300 youths in grades 5-12 that day for the Individual Major Awards and the State Drill Competition, which are annual highlights for the Cadet Corps, a Cal Guard-run leadership-development program that dates to 1911.
