NEWPORT, R.I.
(May 3, 2016)
Porter Halyburton, professor emeritus for U.S. Naval War College (NWC), is presented a commemorative lapel pin for his service during the Vietnam War by Rear. Adm. P. Gardner Howe III, president, NWC, following a lecture to students, staff and guests about his time as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam. Initially thought to be killed-in-action, Halyburton was held captive for more than seven years in a number of prisons including the infamous "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Hanoi Hilton."
