Maj. Gen. Richard Simcock visits with Japanese Ground Self Defense Force service members, May 17, at Sendai, Japan for Artillery Relocation Training Program 16-1. ARTP is a Japan-funded, routine training exercise that allows Marines with 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, to conduct live-fire training. Simcock, a San Mateo, Calif., native, is the Commanding Officer of 3rd MarDiv, III MEF. The JGSDF works with the Marine Corps on a daily basis to facilitate artillery training in mainland Japan.
