MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Reconnaissance Marines prepare for the stalking event during the 8th annual Recon Challenge, May 20, 2016. The 8th annual Recon Challenge is an opportunity for reconnaissance Marines to test their ability to endure grueling physical conditions while performing tasks common to the reconnaissance community. The 10 checkpoints along the 23-mile course include stations evaluating marksmanship, stalking, swimming, obstacles and communication-related tasks in a timed and evaluated environment. More than 20, two-man teams participated in the challenge this year, each in honor of a fallen reconnaissance Marine. During the stalking event, participants try to evade detection while infiltrating an area guarded by sentries. (U.S. Marine Corps Photo by Cpl. Demetrius Morgan/Released)
