MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Members of a two-man team prepare their gear before maneuvering toward the next event during the Recon Challenge, May 20, 2016. The 8th annual Recon Challenge is an opportunity for reconnaissance Marines to test their ability to endure grueling physical conditions while performing tasks common to the reconnaissance community. The 10 checkpoints along the 23-mile course include stations evaluating marksmanship, stalking, swimming, obstacles and communication-related tasks in a timed and evaluated environment. More than 20, two-man teams participated in the challenge this year, each in honor of a fallen reconnaissance Marine. (U.S. Marine Corps Photo by Lance Cpl. Justin Bowles/Released)
