KAILUA – Armed services members take a group picture at Aikahi Elementary School before the school’s annual Yellow Ribbon Day event, April, 8, 2016. Parents and volunteers helped setup this event to acknowledge and honor the children who have family members in the military April is the month of the military child and this awareness month was established to give recognition the important role children play in the Armed Forces community.. Military parents went to classrooms putting leis on children, thanking them for supporting their family members in the Armed Services. The school had an assembly honoring the children, the Marine Forces, Pacific Party Band played music and Marine Wing Support Detachment 24 signed a contract with the school, promising to support the school in an adopt-a-school program.
