KAILUA – Yellow ribbons are hung in honor of parents that are deployed overseas as part of Aikahi Elementary School’s annual Yellow Ribbon Day celebration in Kailua Hawaii, April 8, 2016. When family members return home, the ribbons will be taken down. April is the month of the military child. This awareness month was established to give recognition the important role children play in the Armed Forces community. Parents and volunteers helped setup this event to acknowledge and honor the children who have family members in the military. Military parents went to classrooms putting leis on children, thanking them for supporting their family members in the Armed Services. The school had an assembly honoring the children, the Marine Forces, Pacific Party Band played music and Marine Wing Support Detachment 24 signed a contract with the school, to promising to support the school in an adopt-a-school program.
