Spc. Matthew Syverson, a light-wheel mechanic with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, repairs a vehicle for 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, while his brigade trains at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La. Syverson was able to repair the vehicle in a fraction of the time and cost estimated by the vehicle's driver, saving at least $4,000 for a new transmission plus overnight shipping charges. Battalion motor sergeant, Staff Sgt. Michael A. Herr, says that Soldiers like Syverson make all the difference.
