PHILIPPINE SEA (June 16, 2016) - Airman Hayden Ballard, from Elgin, Texas, switches the incandescent lights from a portable battle lantern, to light emitting diodes (LEDs) aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). Ballard has converted more than 200 battle lanterns to LEDs, which consume less energy and have a rated life span of 100,000 hours compared to 100 hours for incandescent bulbs. Providing a ready force supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific, John C. Stennis is operating as part of the Great Green Fleet on a regularly scheduled 7th Fleet deployment.
