Cpl. Zachary A. Barnett hikes through the thick jungle of the Kokoda Trail, Papua New Guinea with other U.S. Marines, Sailors and Soldiers with the Papua New Guinea Defence Force, June 22, 2016, in remembrance of the battles fought there in WWII, during Exercise Koa Moana, as part of Task Force Koa Moana’s deployment in the Asia-Pacific region. Koa Moana is the first multi-national, bilateral exercise between the PNGDF and U.S. Marines directly, and is designed to increase interoperability and relations by sharing infantry, engineering, medical and law enforcement skills. Barnett, from Yuba City, California, is a military policeman with Task Force Koa Moana, originally assigned to Bravo Company, 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
