U.S. Marines take a photo with an Australian after her and her group finished their nine day, 96 kilometer trek on the Kokoda Trail, Papua New Guinea, June 22, 2016, during Exercise Koa Moana. The Kokoda Trail is home to famous battlegrounds from WWII where Australian, U.S., Papuan and British forces fought tiring battles to repel the Japanese Empire, ultimately preventing them from reaching Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Exercise Koa Moana is the first multi-national, bilateral exercise between the Papua New Guinea Defence Force and U.S. Marines directly, and is designed to increase interoperability and relations by sharing infantry, engineering, law enforcement and medical skills. The Marines are with Task Force Koa Moana, originally assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
