MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII – During a blessing and demolition ceremony, Kordell Kekoa, a Hawaiian minister and a Honolulu native, along with other prominent military and construction project personnel, performs a traditional maile lei untying, similar to a ribbon cutting, aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, June 22, 2016. This ceremony was the official start of Phase 6, a multi-phased construction partnership where 276 homes will be torn down and rebuilt, which is part of the last major housing redevelopment on the Mokapu peninsula. The demolition site, workers and land were blessed by a Hawaiian minister, as per Hawaiian tradition for construction projects. This project will be the central community on the base, which will also include a pavilion, two large playgrounds and a basketball court. (U.S. Marine Corps Photo by Lance Cpl.
