MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII – Col. Killeen, the commanding officer for Marine Corps Base Hawaii, and a Mundelein, Ill., native, is given the opportunity to tear down a home, as part of a blessing and demolition ceremony, officially starting the construction project aboard MCB Hawaii, June 22, 2016. This ceremony was the official start of Phase 6, a multi-phased construction partnership where 276 homes will be torn down and rebuilt, which is part of the last major housing redevelopment on the Mokapu peninsula. The demolition site, workers and land were blessed by a Hawaiian minister, as per Hawaiian tradition for construction projects. This project will be the central community on the base, which will also include a pavilion, two large playgrounds and a basketball court. (U.S. Marine Corps Photo by Lance Cpl.
