160705-N-IN729-046 SOUTH CHINA SEA (July 5, 2016) Machinery Repairman 1st Class (SW) Brandon Smith, from Fort Scott, Kansas, tightens a lathe before making repairs to a ventilation motor shaft. Smith is one of many Sailors who has dedicated time and skin to the artwork of tattoos. From the information gathered in a Fox News Poll, 35 percent of military service members have at least one tattoo. “It’s 2016 and this is the military,” said Smith. “People want the opportunity to tell our own stories, and some of us accomplish that by taking part in the time-honored tradition of getting tattoos.” Ronald Reagan, the Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5) flagship, is on patrol in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
