African sailors use a fire hose to spray water on an approaching vessel in an attempt to thwart it and its crew from coming alongside during a crucible which is designed to test skills and knowledge acquired from several classes on force protection as part of Africa Partnership Station West aboard the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock-landing ship USS Gunston Hall. Gunston Hall is on a scheduled deployment in West Africa in support of APS West, an international initiative developed by U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa that aims to improve maritime safety and security in Africa.
