Bobby Beckman, an environmental scientist with Bristol Environmental Remediation Services, LLC, takes soil samples from an excavation site June 20 before the contaminated soil is bagged, numbered and taken to a staging area at Attu Island, Alaska. Beckman was part of a crew of contractors working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Alaska District on a Formerly Used Defense Sites program cleanup project on the island.
