Staff Sgt. Carl Lere holds his five-day-old daughter, Summer, as his wife Sara, looks on at the activation ceremony for South Dakota Army National Guard's 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, May 8, at the Elmen Center, Augustana College campus in Sioux Falls. The 196th will deploy to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to operate as an area support group command for the Kabul Base Cluster and will provide guidance, policy and oversight for 11 military bases operating throughout the capital region.
