A R-11 Mobility Refueler Unit pulls up to service a T-38 Talon from Beale AFB, June 10, Travis AFB, Calif. R-11 fuel tanks hold a maximum capacity of 6,000 gallons and are able to issue fuel at a rate of 600 US gallons per minute. Unlike self-service gas station, where cars and trucks must pull up to the pump, the responsibility of refueling airplanes falls on the shoulders of the fuels management flight personnel who must pull up to the parked aircraft in vehicles carrying the fuel.
