    Strategic Communications Wing One

OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 12, 2015) U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) commander, provides remarks during a change of command ceremony at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., Aug 12, 2016. During the ceremony, U.S. Navy Capt. Edward D. McCabe, former deputy commander, assumed command of Strategic Communications Wing One (SCW 1) and USSTRATCOM’s Task Force 124 (TF 124) from U.S. Navy Capt. Brian J. McCormick. In his remarks, Haney, who presided over the TF 124 change of command, thanked McCormick for his accomplishments as commander and expressed his confidence in McCabe as the new commander. SCW 1 and TF 124 enable operational and administrative command and support for the U.S. Navy's E-6B Mercury community. These aircraft provide a survivable communications link between national decision-makers and the nation's strategic forces. As an airborne command post, the E-6B gives the President of the United States and the Secretary of Defense the capability to communicate with crews operating the nation's ballistic missile submarines, land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles and long-range strategic bombers. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
