160824-N-WA993-053 YOKOSUKA, Japan (Aug. 24, 2016) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Airman Timothy Saylor, from Hartford, Michigan, and Aviation Boatswain’s mate (Handling) Airman Naeem Hatchett, from East Orange, New Jersey, store self-contained breathing apparatus’ after a bunker drill on the flight deck of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). A bunker drill is a training exercise that requires Sailors to don firefighting equipment in under five minutes to respond to an aircraft crash. “This is a bonding experience, it teaches us to put faith in our partners,” said Hatchett. “We got to learn how to work as a team.” Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
