Family members pay their respects during a memorial service for Sgt. Michael A. Tooley at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Aug. 24. The Suffolk, Va., native served for more than 11 years with the Marine Corps. During his time, he served as combat engineer, a demolitions instructor, and drill instructor. He deployed to the Philippines, Iraq and Afghanistan as a combat engineer. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
