Alpha Company, 3rd Infantry Regiment, “The Old Guard” flag detail folds the U.S. Garrison Flag that has been hanging over the Pentagon after the 9/11 attack, October 11, 2001. PFC Gregory "Erick" Reed, is the second Soldier in formation on the right facing the flag. Today, the flag’s condition is as it was when it was retired. Never cleaned it is still soot-stained and has a small rip in one area. The flag resides in the care of the Army’s Center of Military History and serves as a revered symbol of American pride, ideals and resolve in the face of adversity. (Courtesy photo)
