160903-N-HP195-119 SAN PEDRO, California (Sept. 3, 2016) Peter Kowalski, director of photography on TNT television series "The Last Ship," photographs the 5-inch/54 caliber (Mk 45) lightweight gun during a tour aboard USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) as part of LA Fleet Week. The tour was coordinated by Navy Office of Information West to help the show's crew gain increased familiarity with the guided missile destroyer platform upon which the show's titular vessel is based. Wayne E. Meyer, homeported in San Diego, is docked in Los Angeles Harbor for the duration of LA Fleet Week, from Sept. 2 to Sept. 5. Fleet week offers the public an opportunity to meet Sailors, Marines, and members of the Coast Guard and gain a better understanding of how the sea services support the national defense of the United States and freedom of the seas.
