The 241st Navy birthday cake from the Marines to the sailors displayed before the cutting of the cake ceremony at Camp Wilson, Calif., Oct. 13, 2016. The Navy was established on Oct 13, 1775 making this year the 241st anniversary since its commissioning. Marines and sailors from 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division and 4th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division gathered for the reading of the commandant’s message and the cutting of the cake ceremony, signifying the passing of Naval heritage from the oldest to the youngest sailor among the units.
