Julio Avila, the company gunnery sergeant with SPMAGTF-SC's logistics command element, the Joint Service Achievement Medal for directing and organizing all ground transportation movements for more than 1,000 passengers of Joint Task Force Matthew in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew during an award ceremony at Soto Cano Air base, Honduras, Oct. 20, 2016. JTF Matthew, a U.S. Southern Command-directed team, was comprised of over 400 Marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen on the ground in Haiti supporting the U.S. Agency of International Development’s disaster relief operations by providing critical airlift capabilities during the vital early stages after the island country was struck by Hurricane Matthew.
