Petty Officer 3rd Class Eugene Portiz, aviation structural mechanic, performs a catapult gear inspection on an E-2C Hawkeye assigned to the "Black Eagles" of the Airborne Early Warning Squadron 113, in the hangar bay of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan. Catapult gear on a Hawkeye is changed every 100 launches due to the pressure the catapults put on the aircraft during a launch. Ronald Reagan is currently underway in the Pacific Ocean conducting Tailored Ships Training Availability.
