Marines test a new way of delivering emergency supplies to troops on the battlefield with an old method of delivery. An MV-22B Osprey with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 makes another pass over the drop zone, June 27, as test bundle number two hangs out safe and sound on the deck. Marines with 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward) and 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward) are pushing bundles of water out of the Osprey, CH-53D Sea Stallion and CH-53E Super Stallion using Low Cost Low Altitude Parachutes to float them to the ground safely and a honecombed cardboard cushion for a soft landing. If this proves effective, the Marines hope to be performing emergency resupplies of things like water and ammunition to troops when landing to deliver the cargo is not practical.
