161104-N-MB306-161 SAN DIEGO (Nov. 4, 2016) 17 Warfare Tactic Instructor (WTI) graduates, showcase their WTI patches that they received upon graduating from the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center’s (SMWDC) anti-submarine/anti-surface WTI course, at Naval Base San Diego. Akin to Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOP GUN) for the Navy’s best aviators, SMWDC is charged with increasing the tactical proficiency of the surface fleet by selecting an elite cadre of surface warfare officers to become WTIs – the tactical best of the best. WTIs come from three surface warfare disciplines: integrated air and missile defense, amphibious warfare, or anti-submarine/anti-surface warfare. WTI classes are held biannually – the next classes commence in January and July 2017. (U.S. Navy photo by Petty Officer 2nd Class Zachary Bell/Released)
