Hammond native Spc. Dave Derks, a heavy equipment operator with the Louisiana National Guard’s 205th Engineer Battalion, cuts a steel frame for the roof at the U.S. Army South New Horizons- Haiti 2010 Desronvilles Construction site July 15. New Horizons, in partnership with the government of Haiti, is conducting various medical, dental and engineering missions for the locals in Gonaives. New Horizons also provides valuable learning experience in a real-world environment for our U.S. forces.
