Third Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, based out of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., is currently the guinea pig for the Marine Corps' experiment with portable solar panels to power their electronic gear. After testing is complete, the battalion will take the solar energy generators with them to Afghanistan.
