A U.S. Marine with Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, prepares his amphibious assault vehicle (AAV) to “splash” from a beachhead on the coast of Djibouti during Exercise Alligator Dagger, Dec. 12, 2016. The Marines executed an AAV launch and recovery qualification to and from the amphibious transport dock ship USS Somerset (LPD 25), which enhances amphibious readiness across the three U.S. warships comprising the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group.
