A U.S. Marine with Bravo Company, Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), scans the horizon, directing the driver of an Amphibious Assault Vehicle during Exercise Alligator Dagger off the coast of Djibouti, Dec. 12, 2016. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 11th MEU employ a variety of amphibious capabilities, which make large-scale, expedient ship-to-shore operations possible. U.S. Naval Forces Central Command places significant importance on maintaining amphibious readiness within the ARG/MEU in the event there is a need for an immediate response to a crisis.
