GULF OF ADEN (Dec. 24, 2016) Ship’s Serviceman 2nd Class Zemario Sheppard, from Sacramento, Calif., lights the candle of a Marine attached to assigned to the “Ridge Runners” of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 164 (Reinforced) during a Christmas Eve candlelight service on the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). Makin Island is deployed as part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations to support maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts.
