Oscar Team Leader, Marine Capt. Ernest Nordman (center) of the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command puts sand in a strainer so he and his team can sift through the sand in search of WWII remains in the village of Betio, Republic of Kiribati, on Aug. 9. Marines from the 2nd Marine Division fought at the Battle of Tarawa in November of 1943 and 1,113 men were killed.
