Staff Sgt. Matthew Peck of Duncan, Oklahoma shoulders an AKM rifle during instructor standardization training at the International Peacekeeping and Security Center, near Yavoriv, Ukraine, on Jan. 19. Peck is a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. His company, and another from 1st Bn. 179th Inf. Regt., fired both the AKM rifle and PKM machine gun to familiarize themselves with the weapons before partnering with Ukrainian Combat Training Center staff at the IPSC to mentor Ukrainian army units rotating through the training center.
